How Can Wellness, Coaching & Therapy Improve Your Wellbeing

Wellness activities can be defined as anything that brings you health and happiness in a way that is good for you. Many of the activities classified as wellness activities help to bring you a sense of calm, can lesson your stress levels, and improve both your mental and physical health. Let’s take a look at some wellness activities below, as well as looking at coaching and therapy, and how these things can improve your wellbeing.

Wellness Activities

There is a great variety of wellness activities. However, some of the most popular wellness activities include yoga, meditation, and mindfulness. Each of these has their own benefits and can improve your wellbeing.

Yoga is great for your overall wellbeing as it is a highly customizable form of exercise. You can choose to perform gentle stretches that are perfect for soothing your body, or you can ramp it up and try more complex standing positions that test your strength and endurance whilst you hold the pose.

Numerous studies have proven the benefits of practicing meditation. As well as lowering your stress levels, it can also help to reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as improving your ability to concentrate. This shows meditation to be a powerful tool within a world that is fast paced where everyone can do with decreased stress levels, and a better ability to focus on the task at hand rather than getting distracted.

Mindfulness is something that can be practiced at any time, which makes it a powerful tool to improve your wellbeing in virtually any situation and any place. An easy way to step into the practice of mindfulness is to implement it when you are doing activities that may seem routine or boring. When you are completing activities such as cooking and cleaning, focus on the things right in front of you. The aromas wafting from the saucepan, or the feeling of the material of the clothes you are folding. Often times when we are doing these kinds of activities our brains tend to wander and we ruminate on stressful situations or an important decision we have to make, when really these times can be used as a reprieve from the stressors of everyday life.

Coaching

Attending a coaching session or meeting up on a regular basis with a coach can be a great way to improve your wellbeing. Coaches help their clients to manage everyday issues such as negative emotions, job stress, and help to set and achieve goals.

There are many different types of coaches and most have certain specializations. It is common to see a coach about a particular area of your life you wish to improve upon. So, for example if you are having trouble with managing stress at the workplace, or you are looking to transition into a new career field, a career coach would be a perfect fit. However, other times you may want to talk to someone about how to improve your life as a whole and this is where life coaches come in. Life coaches look at all aspects of your life, and how they intertwine with each other and then help you to work on areas that you would like to improve.

Seeing a coach can help you improve your overall wellbeing by getting an unbiased outsiders’ opinion who can help you formulate a plan to reach your goals. Often when we ask friends or family members for advice, although they mean well, they may have their own biases because of what we have previously told them, or their proximity to the situation. A coach can provide that third party perspective that is so often lacking when we try to work though problems on our own.

Therapy

In contrast to coaches, psychological therapists have specific training and qualifications in treating complex mental illnesses and clinical problems. You may want to consider seeing a therapist when you feel you may be suffering from depression, anxiety, or any other major mental health condition, as they will be able to both diagnose the issue and offer treatment options.

However, you don’t need to be going through a mental illness to see a therapist. One of the main aspects of a therapist’s job is to help people with emotional wellbeing and healing. If you have been struggling with an issue for over two weeks and you don’t seem to be making any progress, it is perfectly reasonable to seek help from a therapist. Making sure you get on top of any issues that arise in a timely manner, is key to achieving good mental health and general wellbeing. By making sure you address issues early on you prevent them from becoming larger scale problems in the future.
